Apurva Kempinski Bali Review: A Family Resort That Gets the Details Right

Apurva Kempinski Bali makes a strong case for a family resort that doesn’t ask parents to trade comfort for luxury. On a stay with two toddlers, the most persuasive details weren’t only the grand architecture or ocean views. They were the calm bay, the range of pools, thoughtful child-sized amenities and restaurants that made dinner feel manageable rather than like another logistical exercise.

A striking arrival, with a resort-scale footprint

The resort’s arrival experience sets an ambitious tone. The lobby sits on the 15th floor, opening onto views across the grounds and out to sea. Indonesian-inspired design, broad staircases and tropical landscaping give the property a strong sense of place. It’s an impressive first impression, though the architecture also hints at the scale guests will need to navigate during their stay.

The property’s layout is part of the experience, but it has a practical cost: getting between rooms, restaurants, pools and the shore can mean long walks and multiple lifts. Buggy transport is available, yet families with toddlers should still think about distances, naps and stroller access when choosing a room.

Nusa Dua makes staying close to home easier

Location matters when young children set the pace of a trip. Nusa Dua is about 30 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic, and offers a concentration of high-end resorts in a more relaxed setting than Bali’s busier visitor areas. For families who’d rather spend holiday time at the beach or pool than in a car, that convenience has real value.

The coastline around the resort includes protected stretches that can make beach time more comfortable with children. Conditions still depend on tides and weather, but during this stay the bay’s water was calm enough for the toddlers to splash and play. Guests planning a broader Bali holiday can also use Nusa Dua as a quieter base, especially if the plan is to enjoy the resort without arranging outings every day.

Dining that works for parents and children

Koral is the standout dining experience. Its underwater theme puts diners beside an aquarium, where manta rays, sharks and schools of fish pass by. The children were captivated, especially during feeding sessions, and the meal held up beyond the spectacle: the food was excellent. That combination matters at a family resort, where a memorable setting is only useful if the meal itself earns its place in the evening.

There are other strong options on site, including a hotpot and dim sum restaurant and a seafood restaurant by the beach. Having several choices within the resort makes a difference when bedtime is approaching and parents don’t want to organize transport. These restaurants made it possible to have a proper dinner without turning the outing into a production.

Pool time and the little details

The resort’s pools give families room to find a rhythm. There are shallow sections suited to toddlers, plus a dedicated children’s pool with several water slides. The number of pools also spreads guests across the property, and the family found lounge chairs and cabanas available during the stay.

In-room and child-focused amenities help reduce the amount families need to bring. The resort provided bottle sterilisers, children’s bathrobes and portable potties. A beachfront suite offered enough space for the usual family travel sprawl: strollers, bags, toys and all the other gear that accumulates around young children. At meals, the family didn’t feel out of place when the toddlers got excited, which made dining more relaxed.

The kids club has an outdoor playground, and children aged four and older can be left there while parents take a break. The family used that time to visit the spa, which they found excellent. That age threshold is worth keeping in mind for parents travelling with younger children: the club can offer a useful pause, but it won’t be an option for every toddler.

What families should factor in

Apurva Kempinski is a very large resort built along a cliffside. That setting creates the sweeping outlooks, but it also means a room may not be a quick stroll from the beach or pool. A lightweight travel stroller is a sensible addition, especially with babies or toddlers. Guests should expect some walking even with buggy transport available, and room location can make a meaningful difference to everyday routines.

Families packing for the trip may want to check whether their stroller is manageable for travel, alongside essentials such as diaper bags and toddler toys. The suite’s space helped accommodate the family’s equipment, but advance thought about walking distances and nap schedules can make the stay easier.

Is it worth the rate?

The family’s assessment is that the resort offers good value for its level of luxury, facilities and dining, though the source gives no specific rates for comparison. The appeal is the breadth of the stay: a striking setting, multiple pools, a family-friendly beach, memorable restaurants and enough on-site options to keep everyone occupied for several days.

Apurva Kempinski’s strongest feature for families is the balance it strikes. The property feels grand, yet its practical amenities and welcoming approach to children make it comfortable to share with toddlers. The scale asks for some planning, but families who account for room location and walking distances can settle into a resort stay where both parents and children have plenty to enjoy.
